Hoffman Hall is essentially two buildings in one, separate but integrated by circulation networks and common core facilities. A narrow 8-story tower, facing the street, is an extension of the Graduate School of Business Administration. The back of this tower connects perpendicularly with the side of a larger 8-story undergraduate building. Bridges span the 10-foot open slot between the two at the second and third levels; enclosed and outdoor lobbies connect them on the ground level.
Both buildings were executed in architectural concrete bush-hammered in vertical grooves to expose the concrete’s white limestone aggregate. Long-span precast concrete beams above the window permit column-free interiors for maximum flexibility.
Hoffman Hall received a national Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects in 1967.
